València is a candidate city for the XII Gay Games in 2026. In 2018 in Paris, the Gay Games welcomed 10,317 participants from 91 countries. The Games will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2022, taking place in Hong Kong.
The Gay Games are an international cultural and sporting event that take place every 4 years, and is one of the most important cultural and sporting events in the world. Its main ethics are participation, inclusion and diversity.
First launched in 1982, the Games invite everybody to participate regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender identity, sex, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political beliefs, athletic or artistic abilities, age, physical challenges or state of health. The Games offer a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ participants and are open to anybody over the age of 18. Generally, around 10% of participants are not LGBTQ+, but are friends and family there to show their support.
